Having craving for sweet gulab jamuns but have nothing at home to make them?

Do not worry at all?

Here is a wonderful, super easy and crazy gulab jamun hack.


The secret ingredient that goes into delicious gulab jamuns is your ‘white bread’ which is readily available at your homes. Now that you know the secret, let’s get things going…(DRUM ROLLS)

All you need is-

  1. 4 white bread loaves with neatly cut borders
  2. 50 ml milk
  3. 1/2 tsp baking powder
  4. 100g sugar
  5. 1 tsp cardamom powder
  6. Refined oil for deep-frying

Mash white bread loaves with the help of milk. Add 1/2 tsp baking soda to the mixture. Be careful while adding milk, so add 1 tbsp milk at a time. Here, we are trying to knead soft dough of white bread. Allow the dough to rest for at least 10 minutes and then knead again to obtain a smooth texture. Make bite size balls out of the kneaded dough. You should get 8-10 such balls.

Take 100 g sugar and about 100 ml water in a pan, and heat for 5-7 minutes to prepare a syrup solution for our gulab jamuns. Bear in mind that overheating can crystallize the sugar upon cooling and we don’t want that to happen.

Heat some oil in a wok for deep-frying at medium flame. Release 3-4 balls at a time into the hot oil at low flame. Gently stir them till they turn evenly golden brown. Transfer them into the sugar syrup. Repeat this step for remaining gulab jamun balls.

Allow the freshly prepared gulab jamuns dipped in syrup to rest for good 30 minutes and they are ready to dig your sweet tooth into!
